Podcast 6: Using instagram to launch your creative business, with Jono Smart

“If Instagram didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be able to be a potter.”

With over 66k followers on instagram, Jono Smart says about 90% of his business comes via the platform in one form or another. His signature minimalist designs can sell out in a matter of hours, and he’s now in demand across the world as a contemporary potter. I called him up for a chat about sales, keeping a healthy Instagram mindset, future-proofing his business, instagram as a creative ‘gateway drug’, & his frank online sharing of living with Bipolar disorder.

This podcast is brilliant, I think it is the one I can relate to the most. I mean, Jono’s experience. I am so glad that he got successful because it means it is possible even if you don’t know the ABC of instagram. Little by little you learn and at the same time you get in touch with wonderful people who let you in their worlds through their photograps and so you become part of an amazing community. That’s the way. So thank you Jono for sharing your experience with all of us through Sara’s podcast.

Congratulations to the both of you. xxx

  • Hi, new follower here πŸ™‚ I have to say I love your podcasts, they have been very informative and enlightening! I wondered if you would consider discussing watermarks in one?

  • That was so lovely.

I really enjoy listening to your podcasts Sara, Jono is great. What a nice guy. I am one of the few people it seems who hadn’t heard of him, I think I get a little stuck in my jewellery bubble. Thank you for opening my eyes to his work.

How fantastic that Jono’s work is so popular that he has to close his shop!

Please do the Karaoke. Maybe a onetime special? πŸ˜€
