The toss-up between fulfilling our dreams & obligations vs hiding inside our turtle-shell until it goes quiet outside still feels like a daily battle, and I'm not sure I'd have seen daylight at all this summer were it not for the supportive, encouraging and commiserating community of small business owners and creatives I get to talk to online. And that includes you, my lovely friends ❤️

It’s been a tough year and we’ve all had to see a lot of hard things, so here are some pictures of my rescue kitten Nettle for you to rest your eyes on 🐱

We found her in a tractor tyre, half dead, and now look at her pampered little life! She’s my daily reminder that we create love and joy in the world whenever we choose to try and help ❤️

Pretty excited to see that #napdresses and #cottagecore mean I’m basically on-trend for the first time this century. Possibly since around the 1800s, tbh, but I always knew my day would come!

Based on my newfound status as a Sartorial Trendsetter I feel pretty confident in stating the following Winter trend predictions: All Jersey Everything, and an end to brushing your hair at the back. (Nobody can see it on Zoom anyway.)

I always said I wanted a job I could do from my bed. Not from “laziness”, but from necessity: as my chronic health condition worsened over the years, bed rest became the stake that allowed me to keep the fragile sapling of my work & life upright 🌱

And so, I built my business on my phone. If it couldn’t be done one handed, lying down, then it wasn’t sustainable - I just couldn’t know if I’d be able to do it tomorrow.

It’s remained a central element to my business and to all I teach: connection, embracing digital, keeping things simple to guarantee all i do is as sustainable as possible. So when @vodafonebusinessuk invited me to become one of their business ambassadors, alongside brilliant business minds like @bakedbybenji,
@thesistertable and @sarahakwisombe, it seemed like a perfect fit.

I’ve been sharing some of these videos over on TikTok this week, partly because the chaos of my life is pretty hilarious to me, and partly because it would feel almost dishonest not to mention it right now.
As a business owner and a creative I truly believe it’s important now more than ever that we let our customers know about the reality of our lives.
So many of us believe we need a shiny veneer of professionalism to be taken seriously as business owners or freelancers, but in my experience the complete opposite is true! People buy from people, and being a real loving breathing entity with thoughts and dreams and messes is one of the biggest, most powerful assets you possess.

Slower responding to emails because you’re homeschooling your kid? Let your customers see. Having to queue for hours at the post office just to get your parcels sent out? Tell that story too.
