July’s tale, told in photos…

  1. The very last of the peonies. We’ve lit the fire tonight, it’s so cold!
  2.  A NoaNoa tiara – ‘my cown!‘ – for a little girl who’s suddenly alllll about the princesses. (similar here and here.)
  3. This tote from Emoi Emoi, saying it perfectly.
  4. Peas in the pod, which we eat together with giggling glee
  5. Domestic scenes, with these laundry baskets in the sun.
  6. All . of . the . lovely . things . from Boden’s Autumn collection.
  7. Our beautiful hen, Matilda – who was so sadly killed on Saturday. She has left the hugest space in our home and hearts; I can’t stop looking for her at the door. A proper goodbye post, soon.

Ah, thanks Autumn – it’s so nice to hear from other people who ‘get it’ when it comes to hens! They have to be known to be understood I think. Orla is confused – we really struggled to explain it to her in a way that made sense, and she now seems to have decided that Matilda ‘blew away’. It makes my heart break a bit every time she asks about it 🙁 xx

I swear, she thinks they’re sweets or something! Nature’s own sweets, I guess. She’s suddenly gone very ‘child-like’ and less toddler-like’ – it’s a scary and magical thing to watch! love to you and your lovely little family xx

Thanks Joi – yes, that picture really is bittersweet, with her lovely clean summer feathers. Life is fragile and senseless, at times, but angelic Orla keeps us all on track here 🙂 xx

Ah what wonderful words. It’s true – she has a peace and a wisdom that I guess children have naturally, and we spend the rest of our lives trying to get back to! I want to be Orla when I grow up 🙂 Thanks for stopping by – lovely as ever xx

Lovely to see you too – much too brief, let’s get a coffee next time please! Thanks for getting it about Matilda. I felt sure people would be all ‘she’s a chicken, get over it’, but I guess most of us know what it’s like to lose a beloved pet 🙁 xx

It was a month full of events, some bright and magic, others dark and heavy… It is wonderful to stare at Orla’s eyes and find balance and peace there 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear about your hen! My parents had two and they were such sweet and dear pets. They are really underrated and I can’t imagine how that was for your little girl too 🙁
